What Makes the Daisy Stitch Special?

Daisy stitch creates small gathered clusters across the fabric, giving this washcloth its distinctive raised texture. The result looks much more decorative than plain stockinette or garter stitch while still working beautifully for a small practical project.

One useful tip from the designer is to avoid knitting too tightly when working the daisy stitch. A little flexibility in the stitches makes working the textured clusters much easier.

Choosing Yarn for Your Washcloth

The original project uses worsted-weight 100% cotton yarn. Cotton is an excellent choice for washcloths and dishcloths because it is absorbent, washable and gives textured stitches good definition.

Lynn used Lily Sugar'n Cream for the original project, but another suitable worsted-weight cotton can be substituted. Check your gauge if you want to stay close to the original finished dimensions.

How the Kimono-Style Construction Works

The most interesting feature of these baby booties is their unusual construction. As the step-by-step image shows, the knitting begins as a flat shape with sections extending in different directions.

Those sections are then folded and wrapped around one another to form the sides and upper part of the shoe. A contrasting knitted edge emphasizes the wraparound shape, while buttons add the finishing touch.

Why We Are Not Reproducing the Instructions

The original image identifies Tejiendo Peru as the source, but we could not confirm a current authorized page containing this exact knitting pattern.

Several different projects online use names such as “Kimono Shoes” or “Kimono Baby Slippers,” including crochet and loom-knitted designs. Those are different patterns and should not be presented as the source of the booties shown above.

What Makes Pfeilraupe Different?

Pfeilraupe is much more than a simple triangular shawl. Its asymmetrical shape and elongated openings give it a distinctive sculptural appearance.

Those openings are not only decorative. They also make it possible to pull one end of the shawl through the fabric, creating several different ways to arrange it around the neck and shoulders.

An Interesting Short-Row Project

The shape is created partly through short-row knitting, making Pfeilraupe an interesting project for knitters who want to move beyond basic rectangular scarves.

Much of the fabric has a simple textured appearance, allowing the unusual shaping and openings to become the main features of the design.

Choosing Yarn for Pfeilraupe

Alpi's original pattern calls for approximately 522 m / 571 yd of sport-weight yarn and 3.5 mm (US 4) needles.

A yarn with some texture and enough structure to hold the openings clearly can work particularly well for this design.

The pattern is also an attractive choice for hand-dyed or subtly variegated yarn because the relatively simple fabric lets the yarn remain visible without competing with a complicated stitch pattern.

Finished Size

The designer gives an approximate finished measurement of 160 cm long × 45 cm wide after washing without blocking, based on her handspun version.

As with many shawls, the final dimensions can vary with yarn, gauge and finishing.

A Surprisingly Realistic Knitted Fawn

What makes this project special is the amount of character Claire Garland achieves with knitting.

Instead of looking like a conventional stuffed toy, the finished fawn has long slender legs, a shaped muzzle, large ears and subtle changes of color that imitate the coat of a young deer.

The white spots across the back are especially effective and give the finished animal its recognizable woodland appearance.

How the Fawn Is Constructed

Claire describes the fawn as being knitted almost in one piece, joining as you go. The legs and ears are attached afterwards.

The original version combines fine alpaca and alpaca-blend yarns, sometimes holding several colors together to create the subtle, natural variations in the animal's coat.

The pattern also includes access to a video showing how to assemble and finish the fawn for a more realistic appearance.

A Simple Three-Color Baby Blanket

The beauty of this blanket comes from its simplicity. Wide stripes in blue, white and taupe create a calm modern look, while the textured border gives the blanket a neat finished edge.

The original design uses Berroco Vintage DK, but the color combination is easy to personalize for a nursery or baby gift.

Beginner-Friendly Construction

The blanket is worked flat, even though circular needles are used. The circular needle simply provides enough room to comfortably hold all of the blanket stitches.

3. Learn the Knit Stitch

The knit stitch is the most important basic knitting stitch to learn.

If you knit every row of a flat piece, you create garter stitch — one of the easiest fabrics for a beginner to practice.

4. Learn the Purl Stitch

Purl is the second fundamental knitting stitch.

Once you understand both knit and purl stitches, you can begin creating many familiar stitch patterns, including stockinette, ribbing, seed stitch and more.

5. Bind Off

When your knitting reaches the desired length, binding off secures the final row and allows you to remove the finished piece from the needles.

Try not to bind off too tightly, as this can make the finished edge noticeably narrower than the rest of your knitting.

Your first practice project: Cast on a small number of stitches, knit every row until you have a small square, then bind off. Don't worry about perfect tension yet — the goal is simply to become comfortable making stitches.

A Blanket That Lets You Practice New Stitches

The fun of a sampler blanket is that you do not spend the entire project repeating one stitch pattern.

Sampler Block Throw combines several textured designs, including Moss Diamonds, Broken Rib, Zigzag Moss, Square Lattice and Vertical Zigzag.

The blocks are arranged into panels and then joined to create the finished throw. This also makes the project convenient to work on in smaller sections instead of carrying an entire blanket on your needles.

Written Instructions and Charts

Another useful feature of the original pattern is that the stitch patterns are provided in both written and charted form.

This makes the project a nice opportunity to practice reading knitting charts while still having written instructions available for reference.

Choosing Yarn

The original design uses Red Heart With Love yarn. Some original shades associated with the pattern may no longer be available, but that does not prevent you from knitting the throw.

Choose a compatible yarn and make a gauge swatch before beginning, especially if you want to reproduce the original 50 × 60 inch finished size.
