The original design uses Bernat Mega Bulky with a large 19 mm circular needle. The circular needle is used to comfortably hold the width of the blanket while the project itself is worked flat.
Before Choosing a Substitute Yarn
Bernat Mega Bulky is an unusually thick yarn, so don't substitute another yarn based only on the word “bulky.”
Look for a true Jumbo #7 yarn and make a gauge swatch if you want to stay close to the original 45 × 57 inch finished size.
