What Makes the Daisy Stitch Special?
Daisy stitch creates small gathered clusters across the fabric, giving this washcloth its distinctive raised texture. The result looks much more decorative than plain stockinette or garter stitch while still working beautifully for a small practical project.
One useful tip from the designer is to avoid knitting too tightly when working the daisy stitch. A little flexibility in the stitches makes working the textured clusters much easier.
Choosing Yarn for Your Washcloth
The original project uses worsted-weight 100% cotton yarn. Cotton is an excellent choice for washcloths and dishcloths because it is absorbent, washable and gives textured stitches good definition.
Lynn used Lily Sugar'n Cream for the original project, but another suitable worsted-weight cotton can be substituted. Check your gauge if you want to stay close to the original finished dimensions.
A Quick Handmade Gift
Small cotton washcloths are useful projects when you want something satisfying without committing to a sweater or blanket. They are also practical for using individual balls of cotton yarn.
Knit several in coordinating colors and combine them with handmade soap or other bath items for a simple handmade gift set.
