Losing your place in a repeated knitting pattern is easy, especially when several rows look similar.
Here is a simple low-tech trick that can make repeated rows much easier to follow.
A Simple Row-Tracking Trick
Print or copy the pattern instructions onto firm paper or cardstock.
Then make a second piece of cardstock with a narrow opening that shows only the row you are currently working.
Slide the opening down one row at a time as you knit.
Tip: If one instruction takes two printed lines, simply make the opening tall enough to show both lines together.
Keep Your Place When You Stop
When you put your knitting away, secure the paper tracker with a paper clip so it does not move.
When you return to the project, the correct row will still be visible.
Use It With a Row Counter
This simple paper guide works especially well together with a row counter when a pattern asks you to repeat the same group of rows several times.
It is particularly useful for lace, cables, textured stitches and any pattern with a longer row repeat.
