The earflaps are button fastening under the chin to keep little heads from wriggling out of it, and tiny toddler hands from pulling it off after two seconds, but if you are knitting for an older child and want the earflaps to hang freely just make two of the left earflap and don't add a button. This knitting block was originally featured in one of the Antique CounterPane guides; however, since I didn’t completely ‘create’ it, I offer it for free. I see similar knitting blocks featured in the latest issues of Mary Maxim’s catalog. There is also one done in Jan Eaton’s 200 Knit Blocks, that has you make a single leaf, and join the four leaves in the corners, to make the four-leaf. That’s just too much work for me! Anisah is a contemporary shawl featuring a textured cable and lace panel surrounded by classic garter stitch. The asymmetrical triangular shaping begins with just a few stitches which then flow into a wide panel composed of a graceful cable flanked by mesh lace. While that panel forms the left edge of the shawl, the remainder of the body is filled with squishy garter goodness.
