What You'll Need
The project is designed to use small amounts of DK-weight yarn, making it especially useful for leftover yarn from other projects. Choose one main color for the mouse and several contrasting shades for the Fair Isle band.
You will also need 3.75 mm knitting needles and toy stuffing to shape the finished mouse.
About the Construction
Unlike many small knitted toys worked in the round, the Fair Isle Mice are knitted flat. The shaping creates the mouse body, and the finished piece is then seamed and stuffed.
A stranded-colorwork section forms the decorative Fair Isle band around the body. Because the project is so small, it can also be a manageable way to practice stranded knitting without committing to a large garment.
A Good Scrap-Yarn Project
One of the nicest features of this pattern is how little yarn it requires. Small leftover balls can be combined to create completely different mice, so each finished toy can have its own color scheme.
