Summer Stream Scarf by Asami Kawa is a delicate lace scarf designed for lightweight summer knitting. Its combination of openwork, flowing vertical motifs and pointed lace edges creates an elegant fabric without the visual weight of a winter scarf.
The original pattern was published through Knitting Winterwren in 2009. It was historically available as a free digital pattern, but the authorized download is no longer available online.
Summer Stream Scarf was originally published as a free pattern by designer Asami Kawa. The original publication is now out of print, and the official pattern listing currently marks the digital pattern as discontinued and no longer available online.

About the Original Design
Summer Stream Scarf was designed as a lightweight cotton scarf for warmer weather. Instead of using one continuous piece of knitting, the scarf is made from two identical sections that are joined together.
This construction allows the decorative lace motifs and pointed ends to face correctly at both ends of the finished scarf.
Yarn and Lace
The original design used Habu Textiles cotton boucle held double. The pattern lists approximately 506–528 yards (463–483 m), with the strands held together while knitting.
The photographs show why a lightweight yarn works particularly well for this design: the open sections remain airy while the solid lace motifs retain enough definition to stand out after blocking.
Blocking is especially important for lace projects. The fabric may look compressed while it is still on the needles; careful blocking helps open the eyelets and reveal the shape of the lace motifs and decorative edges.
What Happened to the Free Pattern?
Summer Stream Scarf was genuinely distributed as a free pattern in the past. However, free availability is not necessarily permanent.
The original Knitting Winterwren publication is now out of print, and the current pattern record states that the digital pattern is no longer available online.
You may still encounter copies of the old PDF on file-sharing sites. Amazing Knitting does not link to those copies because we cannot verify that they are being distributed with the designer's authorization.
