Kid Merino Socks with Lace Cuffs

MATERIALS:
3-25 gr. balls Crystal Palace Yarns Kid Merino
(shown in color #4686 'strawberry soda', or hold 2 colors tog double throughout knitting socks for heather effect.) [retail yarn cost under $18]
Crystal Palace Bamboo Needles: 6" DP size 2

Kid Merino contains microfiber nylon and thus is good for a sock yarn as well as all the other things you can knit with it.

Size: S (M, L) to fit Women’s shoe size 5-6 (7-8, 9-10)
Length of foot: 8 (8.75, 9.5)” from center of heel to end of toe
Foot width: Approx. 3.5”

Gauge: 7.5 sts=1” on Stst with yarn held double

Sock (make 2):
[Note: pattern edited for small 1 st error in Rnd 2 - 5/7/05.]

Leg:
CO 60 sts.
Work the following 8 rnds 5x:

Rnd 1: Knit.
Rnd 2: *yf, k3, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k3, yf, k1; repeat from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 3: Knit.
Rnd 4: *k1, yf, k2, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, k2, yf, k1, p1; repeat from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 5: *k9, p1; repeat from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 6: *k2, yf, k1, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, k1, yf, k2, p1; repeat from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 7: *k9, p1; repeat from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 8: *k3, yf, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, yf, k3, p1; repeat from * to end of rnd.

Reverse direction: At end of last rnd, sl 1 st from right to left needle, yf, sl the same st back to the right needle. Turn the work.
Continue in Stst for 4”.

Heel:
Row 1(RS): k 29, turn work.
Row 2(WS): sl 1, p27, turn.
Row 3(RS): sl 1, k26, turn.
Continue short rows in this manner, always slipping the first stitch of a row, until Row 20 (WS): sl1, p9, turn work.
Then, work the following rows:
Row 1(RS): sl 1, k10, turn.
Row 2(WS): sl 1, p11, turn.
Row 3(RS): sl1, k12, turn.
Continue in this manner until there are no more slipped sts.
Change back to working in the round in Stst. Work to 5.5 (6.25, 7)” from center of heel. Begin toe.

Toe:
Rnd 1: k12, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k24, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k12.
Rnds 2,3,4: Knit
Rnd 5: k11, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k22, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k11.
Rnd 6,7: Knit
Rnd 9,10: Knit
Rnd 11: k9, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k18, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k9.
Rnd 12: Knit
Rnd 13: k8, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k16, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k8.
Rnd 14: Knit
Rnd 15: k7, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k14, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k7.
Rnd 16: Knit
Rnd 17: k6, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k12, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k6
Rnd 18: k5, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k10, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k5.
Rnd 19: k4, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k8, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k4.
Rnd 20: k3, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k6, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k3.
Rnd 21:: k2, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k4, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k2.
Rnd 22: k1, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k2, k2 tog, k2, ssk, k1.
Rnd 23: k2 tog, k2, ssk, k2 tog, k2, ssk.
Thread yarn needle through remaining sts and secure on wrong side. Weave in all ends.
